Hiho

I have one advise for everyone that is willing to train their animal:

Read DON'T SHOOT THE DOG from Karen Pryor

It opens doors and it will be the start of a near perfect relationship with your animal (or anyone/thing else for that matter).

It is all about how positive reinforcement works, and believe me it does!

Success!

positive reinforcement training is very effect with dog oweners. but no matter how meny books, or dog taining progames we watch, or even go to, if your dog fights with dog, your confindence is blown.

I fell your pain we have a Yorkshire Terrier and his main goal on walks was to seek out other dogs to bark at, pull towards and chew. We recieved him with this habit and where a little stumped on how to break him out of it. We invested in a harness so atleast if he did start his messing we could pull him off the ground in super time and calm him which turned out to be brilliant as it gave us alot more control when walking him. From there each time we spotted a dog walking I would tap his rear with a stick to distract him if he proceeded to do his usual bark I stopped tapped him on the nose and with a firm deep voice said no. After ages it eventually set in and he stopped and walked fine on the lead no barking or chewing and got to the stage where he could be let off at the beach and play normally with dogs. What really sucked though was after all that he was killed in of all things a dog fight! ( he didn't start it, the neighbours large dog got off his chain and just pulled him apart he had no chance nearly killed me!) miss that little guy he rocked.

we as dog lover's take great care in training our dogs, but often we get a dog that will go for other dogs, and belive me i know we did all we cud to train our dog. i think we got a dog that will not want to play nice with other dogs. so we lose confindence, we blame ourselves, but we love our dog, we do try our best. and that is what seperates us from other dog owners who don't treat there dog as part of the family. there is so much for me to explane.wot i mean, but i ave no idea if anyone will read this. i am crap on compters. steph
